Orange Boot Bakery, on Gordon Road in Regina, was an amazing place.
We made the best bread and sweets in Regina (or so you told us!) for five years.
We made a lot of friends. Friends who would wave hello and stop and chat with us. Friends who would bring visiting friends to meet us, or bring us presents from their own vacations. It was awesome!
But even with the great food, great friends and a ton of love, we decided to close our retail space in November 2015.
It was an amazing roller coaster ride. And it’s not over yet!
Why Did We Close The Bakery?
We loved our bakery and we loved to bake for you every day. We really put our heart and soul into the food we made for you.
But what Cindy and I have learned is that we love baking way more than we love running a small business.
Well, that’s sort of true. We loved having this space we can call our own and do things ‘our way.’ But continually building and rebuilding our team, stressing over making payroll and worrying if the air conditioner is going to work today was wearing us out.
We need a way to take a break from time to time. To travel, to learn and to get re-energized and re-inspired. To see what’s happening “out there” and bring the good stuff to you at the bakery.
And the way we were set up, we just couldn’t get away from the workbench without closing.
What Happened To Our Bakery Space
Our former bakery space is now the main baking area for Brewed Awakening. They are a locally owned set of coffee shops that are rapidly growing across South Regina.
They bake everything for the coffee shops themselves and have completely run out of kitchen space. So Gordon Road is now their “mothership”; their main kitchen for all their locations across town.
What about me? What about you? What about us??!!
Right now, we’re focused on reclaiming our house from five years of dust bunnies. And when we’re not doing that, or walking around Wascana Lake, we’re focusing on teaching people how to bake the good stuff in their home kitchens.
We’re working on making our recipes ‘home sized’, then teaching people through recipes, photo essays, and possibly videos, if I can figure out how to get this *%@# camera working.
On our travels, near and far, we’re still seeking out the good stuff and will be sure to tell you all the secret places we’ve discovered. We’ll let you know through the website and our email newsletter.
And if we do a ‘pop up’ bake day from time to time, we’ll be sure to let you know through the newsletter.
You are getting the newsletter, right? That’s where all the cool kids are finding things out. Don’t miss out – sign up today. Right here. Below these words.
