The Bakers
When we opened in 2011 Orange Boot Bakery was literally a Mom and Pop shop. Mark and Cindy came in early to bake the bread then stayed all afternoon to sell it.
While Mark and Cindy are still coming in early to bake and can often be found serving customers in the afternoon, our team has expanded quite a bit over the past year.
Let’s meet the crew!
Mark Dyck is the co-owner and bread baker. He’s obsessed with flour and fermentation and is a big friend of gluten. Mark’s on a quest to bake a loaf for the ages with Saskatchewan flour.
Cindy Dyck, the other co-owner, is in charge of the sweet stuff and making sure your stop at the bakery is the best part of your day. In addition to keeping Mark on an even keel, Cindy is awesome at taking her classic home recipes and making them work in the bakery.
Ben and Robyn Dyck: Students, athletes, musicians and ace customer service pros. Ben keeps us all mellow and will likely be the lead singer once Robyn finishes writing Orange Boot: The Musical.
Heather is Employee #1 at Orange Boot Bakery and is secretly hoping this will be as lucrative as being Employee #1 at Apple. Time will tell. For now, Heather does it all — serves customers, bakes sweets, helps with bread. Whatever is needed, Heather steps up.
After starting as a muffin and cookie mixer, Ethan moved over to the bread side of things. He’s an attentive student of the mixes, loved braiding Christmas loaves and is coming to terms with pretzels. We hear he’s a darn good guitarist too. Now we need to get him playing on Saturdays.
Kim grew up baking at home all the time, and is now our muffin and cookie mixer. She’s got a good set of tastebuds, which really helps us fine tune our test bakes.
Jessica feels compelled to finish high school, so we have to enjoy her energy and great smile during the summer or on the weekend. She is the #1 supremo fan of our Multigrain Carrot Rolls and is making sure the entire Sheldon Williams student body is turned on to the wonder of carrots in bread.
Emma is our customer concierge. Her job is to make sure you have the right loaf for dinner, the right cookies for dessert and that you leave the bakery smiling.
You won’t meet Lindsay unless you come to the bakery in the late afternoon, but she is a very important part of the team. Lindsay is our ‘set up’ person, making sure the bakery is shiny clean and everything is in the right place for the morning bakers.
